Plum is a LinkedIn Top Startup 2024
The last two months have been kind to all of us at Plum.
In July, Forbes recognised us as part of their prestigious Startups To Watch in Asia, a list of companies known for their innovative edge. In September, we were awarded ‘The Best in Class InsurTech’ at The Global Fintech Fest for the second year running. And today, LinkedIn featured us on their annual LinkedIn India Top Startups list.
This is not a series of fortunate events. Rather, I’d like to believe this is (more) validation that we’ve been solving an important problem, building relevant solutions, and doing it with good people.
This is a sign that we’re doing (at least) three things right.
#1: Our Mission
Five years ago, Saurabh and I got together to build towards a simple mission: To positively impact the health and financial well-being of every Indian, and to do it through companies that care.
That mission is still as relevant today – companies have a great role to play in the health of their employees and families.
Over the last three years, over 10 crore Indians have been covered by health insurance, thanks to their company’s group health policy. (in comparison, only 1 crore purchased retail health insurance). Employers are also raising the bar.
In our experience consulting with companies over the last few years – the consistent trend we’ve witnessed is founders and people leaders willing to make meaningful investments in their team’s health.
Today, this mission isn’t limited to us.
We share it with over 5000 companies of all sizes and industries who want to do right by their employees. From global giants like Atlassian, Flixbus, and Twilio to Indian disruptors like CRED, Postman, and Dish TV, we’re proud to be playing a small role in positively influencing their team’s health.
#2: The Plum Experience
The quality of benefits we offer doesn’t matter if the experience is lacking. Insurance is traditionally a very hairy space, with a reputation for jargon, vague terms, mis-selling, and unkept promises.
When people leaders choose to partner with us, we owe it to them to uphold their trust by not just during emergencies, but also as part of their daily healthcare routine. This is not a responsibility that we take lightly.
This influences how we build the product, from using AI to ensure there are no errors in your reimbursement claim to leveraging APIs so that you can add employees to your plan without any paperwork.
This influences how we drive healthcare outcomes, from partnering with brands for Plum Perks to choosing to build our telehealth programme in-house to ensure quality does not drop.
This influences how you interact with us, from ensuring you don’t speak to multiple people through your claims journey to hiring and training a claims team that’s almost double the size of our business teams.
While the awards are great, I take great pride in the fact that our claims NPS has consistently hovered in the 70+ range, an industry high.
#3: The Team
One of the best parts of building Plum is witnessing people who've taken a bet on us grow along with us, and I’m truly privileged to be building this company with them.
Solving for something like insurance and healthcare takes immense thoughtfulness, attention to detail, empathy, and most importantly, patience.
From our support teams going above and beyond to deliver care in a time of need, to our business teams building a white-glove consulting playbook for employee health, to our product teams innovating in one of the most complex tech industries – every team today is crafting something that’s never been done before.
Walk on the floor today, and most folks will tell you they chose Plum because of the opportunity to build something that drives real impact. They're our biggest moat, and I admire seeing them pick newer problems to solve with the same enthusiasm as day one.
If this is something that interests you, we’re building our team. Feel free to apply – plumhq.com/careers
Again, I’m grateful to all our partners, customers, and employees for all the trust. For now, onwards and upwards.
